Think Twice Before bringing These 3 Things to college

This post is about those few items you should think twice before buying for your dorm since you may or may not need them.

Packing for college and want to make sure you have everything you need? Wondering if you need a printer, a keurig, kitchen stuff, etc.? You’re not alone!

Here are three items you may not need to buy for college:

1. A Printer

Consider theses things before buying or bringing a printer:

Does your university offer printing services?

Is printing free (included in your tuition) or is there a fee for each print?

Where are the printers on campus located?

Is your roommate or someone you know bringing a printer and are they willing to share?

If your dorm building or library has printers and printing is free, you do not need to bring a printer.

2. Appliances (mini fridge, microwave, toaster, etc.)

Ask yourself:

Do I really need it?

Microwave and fridge? Yes.

A blender? A mini waffle maker? Probably not. I know, it’s cute and the idea of making waffles seems so fun, but chances are you’re going to be making quick breakfasts or eating in the dining hall. 😉

My roommates and I liked having a toaster for easy breakfasts in the dorm.

Does my dorm already come with it?

Many dorms come with a microwave and mini fridge.

Is there a community kitchen that has appliances I can use? How accessible is it?
Is my roommate bringing anything we can share?

(Don’t bring 2 keurigs!!)

3. Kitchen Ware

How often are you really going to have the time and/or energy to cook something?

Is there a community kitchen on your floor or would you have to go out of your way to access a kitchen?

Do you have space to store pots, pans, utensils, etc?

If you absolutely need to bring something– is your roomate already bringing one?

I would say one cookie sheet is reasonable since it’s easy to store and easy to buy cookie dough and make cookies for a fun night in. 🙂

I hope this helped narrow down your packing list!

What other items would you think twice before buying/bringing to college?

I brought a floor mat for my roommates to put our shoes on after it rained. It was nice on the the days it rained but on sunny days it took up so much unnecessary room!
